Ferro Silicon

Ferro Silicon is produced through the reduction of silicon dioxide (SiO2) with iron and carbon in an electric arc furnace.

The silicon content in Ferro Silicon can vary depending on the specific application and requirements.

Ferro Silicon (FeSi) is a ferroalloy composed of iron (Fe) and silicon (Si), with a typical composition of:

Applications

  • Steel production: FeSi is used as a deoxidizer and alloying element to improve steel’s strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance.
  • Foundry industry: FeSi is used in the production of cast iron and steel alloys.
  • Aluminum alloys: FeSi is used to improve the strength and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys.
  • Silicon metal production: FeSi is used as a raw material in the production of silicon metal.
  • Welding and brazing: FeSi is used as a filler metal in welding and brazing processes.
