Low Carbon Ferro Chrome

Low Carbon Ferro Chrome (LC FeCr) is a ferroalloy with a low carbon content.

LC FeCr is produced through the reduction of chromite ore (FeCr2O4) with iron and carbon, followed by a refining process to minimize carbon content.

The low carbon content in LC FeCr makes it an ideal alloying element for applications requiring minimal carbon content, such as stainless steel production.

It’s a combination of iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), and carbon (C), with a typical composition of:

Applications

  • Stainless steel production: Adds corrosion resistance and high-temperature properties.
  • Special alloy steels: Improves strength, toughness, and resistance to corrosion and wear.
  • Electrical resistance alloys: Used in heating elements, thermocouples, and electrical components.
  • Automotive trim and exhaust systems: Provides corrosion resistance and high-temperature properties.
  • Aerospace industry: Used in high-temperature applications due to its oxidation resistance.

Benefits

  • Low carbon content reduces carbide precipitation, improving corrosion resistance
  • High chromium content provides excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance
  • Good high-temperature properties
  • Essential for producing stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys
